Stericycle Celebrates International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month with a 3-Week Summit

Women's History Month is celebrated this March, coinciding with International Women's Day on March 8. The theme this year is #BreakTheBias, a reminder to raise awareness against bias and commit to action for equality.

At Stericycle, embracing diversity and inclusion in the workplace is a core value, and we are committed to ensuring our company is a place where everyone is treated fairly and respectfully, has equal access to opportunities, and can thrive personally and professionally. In that spirit, our Women’s History Month observances include our second Virtual International Women’s Summit, highlighting women in the workplace.

Highlighting the Essence and Impact of Women Throughout the World

Last year, more than 1,000 team members (women and men) participated in the Summit. Held in partnership with our women’s employee resource group, Women’s Resource for Impact, Success and Empowerment, or WRISE, this year’s summit brings together current and future female leaders for a series of more than 15 sessions focused on wellness, professional development and leadership, and empowerment. Some specific topics will include breaking the glass ceiling, influencing without authority, leading with authenticity, and battling burnout. In addition, senior team members will share their journeys to leadership, offering valuable insights into gaining confidence and standing out.

Providing Resources All Year Long

Our commitment to recognizing and empowering women extends beyond our Virtual Summit programming. WRISE works throughout the year to enable women across the company by supporting, empowering, and inspiring team members to become advocates for their careers and personal development as well as providing opportunity and exposure to various resources internally and externally. The resource group provides strong leadership support and has a robust membership of Stericycle team members across the United States and Canada. WRISE provides forums for women to engage with other team members with shared interests and be inspired to reach their highest potential. The group is designed to enable connections, advance skills, and provide professional development and mentorship, which in turn encourages team members to contribute within our organization and across their communities.

Working for Gender Diversity

Along with providing resources for empowerment and career growth, Stericycle is dedicated to expanding gender diversity in the organization. Cindy Miller sits at our company’s helm as president and chief executive officer since May 2019, after serving as the chief operating officer . Our corporate board is comprised of 33% women and exceeds the national average for female-held board seats. As noted in our most recent Corporate Social Responsibility Report, women make up 23% of Stericycle’s workforce, 29% of senior management, and 30% of middle management. We remain committed to promoting more equal representation and expanding the role of women throughout the company.

Stericycle’s success is a result of the diverse talent and leadership across our entire team. To learn more about our commitment to equality, visit our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion page.
