Women In Trucking Association Names Stericycle a “Top Company for Women to Work for in Transportation” For the Second Year in a Row

Stericycle was honored as a “Top Company for Women to Work for in Transportation” by the Women In Trucking Association for the second year in a row. This annual award recognizes companies that exemplify a dedication to female employment and strive to create inclusive work environments for women in the trucking industry. 

“As the first female Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a publicly traded waste company and the first female CEO of Stericycle, it’s an honor that our efforts to support and bolster women in this industry are being recognized,” said Stericycle CEO, Cindy J. Miller. “Given that trucking is a male-dominated field, we strive to increase female visibility and cultivate career growth by living our mission to create healthier and safer communities for all.”

Stericycle is committed to creating a culture of belonging with Ms. Miller joining more than 2,200 CEOs pledging to take action to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace through the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion coalition. Inclusivity is core to Stericycle where diverse perspectives and experiences are encouraged, supported, and celebrated - and it starts at the top. In 2022, Stericycle was recognized by 50/50 Women on Boards™ for having a more gender-balanced corporate board, receiving a “3+” ranking for having three or more women on its corporate board of directors. Globally in 2021, Stericycle also increased its percentage of women in senior and middle management roles, and 64% of all U.S.-based new hires were racially or ethnically diverse.

It is also important for us to support employees during life-changing moments. In North America, Stericycle announced a new leave of absence program – Paid Parental Leave – to support diverse family arrangements. The new benefit offers team members four weeks of paid bonding time when welcoming a child into their home through birth, adoption, or foster/legal placement.

Through employee engagement, dedication, and outreach to women within the organization, our leaders have created pathways for women at our company. For example, our employee resource group, Women's Resource for Impact, Success and Empowerment (WRISE), cultivates community and offers access to career development resources. In addition, we host an annual International Women’s Summit, uniting women in motivational career and personal development discussions. We advocate for a culture where women can learn from and support others.

The criteria that distinguish companies recognized on this list include corporate cultures that foster gender diversity, competitive compensation and benefits, flexible hours and work requirements, professional development opportunities, and career advancement opportunities. This is the fifth year of this prestigious recognition program.

Stericycle has repeatedly been recognized for its commitment to workplace leadership. This recognition by the Women In Trucking Association follows Stericycle’s 2021 gold award from the Brandon Hall Group in the Best Certification category for its SWAT defensive driving certification program. Stericycle was awarded a Silver Stevie® Award in the 19th Annual American Business Awards® having been recognized as a 2021 Company of the Year in the Health Products and Services category for its suite of products and services, which protect the health and well-being of people, workplaces, and communities. Our senior leadership has also been recognized for their outstanding work in the industry including CEO, Cindy J. Miller, being named to Forbes 50 over 50 list in 2021. CFO and CIO, Janet Zelenka received the 2022 CFO of the Year and CIO+ of the Year Awards.

About the Women In Trucking Award 

Companies who were recognized were judged on the following criteria: corporate culture that fosters gender diversity, competitive compensation and benefits, flexible work hours and requirements, career development opportunities, and career advancement opportunities. Nominated companies are reviewed based on the criteria above as well as a final ballot voted on by professionals in the industry. This year, more than 22,000 professionals in transportation voted, including those in executive management and operations, HR management executives and professional drivers.
